My birthday: An experience of Life, Liberty, and Death

  • Published in Blog

Every day is a new day and as much as it may resemble the last, it's just not the same. As the days build into weeks and weeks to months they eventually pile up into a year. I may have more or less done the same thing on my birthday for the last several years, but this year was different. Three things keep coming to my mind when I think about my birthday this year, July 4th, 2014: Life, Liberty, and Death.

Thoughts From The Passing of a Sister in Christ

Just last week we had a funeral for a sister in our church. She had cancer and Christ won. More on this later. During the last several weeks I was privileged to spend some very intimate times with her and her family. One of which was a prayer meeting she wanted to have in the hospital. 10 Years Old

A lot happens in 10 years.  One of the first things you think of the first time you say "about 10 years ago.." is that you are getting older.  It seems it wasn't that long ago that if I said "10 years ago.." I would have had to end it with "… I don't remember or I wasn't even born."  Now I look back and I can think of lots of things that happened 10 years ago and beyond.  10 year reunions have come and gone and now I'm reflecting on a 10 year birth day celebration.

AletheiaGrace

We are excited to announce the birth of our first child, Aletheia Grace!  She was born on 6/15 (she was my day-early father's day present) and weighed 7 lbs. 6oz and was 22 inches long.  It's been an amazing journey so far.  It's astounding how the woman's body changes so much from conception to after the birth.  The human body truly is created in such a wonderful way!  Not only the fact that the woman's body changes but that another person is being formed inside.  Then he/she  comes out and yet there are still changes in the woman's body!

The story of how we decided on her name goes back several years, even before Karen and I had met.  I was studying Greek several years ago and as I learned more vocabulary words I ran across the word: ἀλήθεια or transliterated into English aletheia.  The word means truth.  As I ran across that word for the first time, I thought that it would be a great name for a girl.  And so here we are.  And grace just seems so inseparable from the truth that the two just go together.
