Sometimes they are general questions like what's the weather like or the cost of living and other times they are more about the culture. Difficulties and Joys: Part 2

A lot of things boil down to perspective.  You can put two different people through the same situation and both of them come out seeing it differently.  In the last post I wrote about the struggles or negative aspects of the missionary appointee process we are in.  It has indeed been long and hard on us but we aren't discouraged about it because we can see some of what God is doing in us through it all.  I could turn most of the points around (and I'll do that with some) and show how they have been positive.  God is always at work even in the longest of processes.  

James 1:4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

Difficulties and Joys: Part 1

2 years is quite a bit of time to prepare for something.  That's how long we've been with SIM as missionary appointees.  That's a long time.  We've seen several who started with us and have already been on the field for many months now.  Discouragement crouches at the door continually.  And really, I can say that the desire to be a missionary in Latin America has been warming inside of me for closer to 6 years or so.  During these last 2 years we've had a lot of ups and downs.  One thing is for sure and that's that God has been teaching us and molding us.  We are still pushing toward the calling we feel like God has given us.  Being in southern Ecuador with the 1% of the population who are evangelical is still our goal.  In these next two blog posts I want to share some of those feelings and experiences I've had, both negative and positive.  I'll start with the negative and end on the positive ones in the next post.  They aren't listed in any particular order.

Relationships

Since the last post about specific prayer, we've been trying to focus on that. Praying specifically to God and seeing him answer them. One thing that we had been praying for is the ability to step back from some of the responsibilities we had and focus more on our going to Ecuador. Praise God, he's been making that possible. We've been able to clear the table so to speak and really put everything we have into building partnerships and presenting to others our vision for southern Ecuador.
